Welcome to the Experimental Orthopedics Department at the UKM!
We focus on clinical issues with direct application relevance. We develop innovative solutions to improve patient care. To this end, we research and utilise the possibilities of state-of-the-art technologies. The integration of Experimental Orthopedics into the Clinic for General Orthopedics and Tumour Orthopedics (Director: Prof. Dr Georg Gosheger) at Münster University Hospital (UKM) enables practical and application-oriented developments.
Together with our cooperation partners, the Institute for Medical Microbiology and the Institute for Hygiene at the University of Münster (WWU), the Center for Laboratory Medicine at the UKM, as well as the Laboratory for Materials Technology at Münster University of Applied Sciences and numerous international partners, we are constantly working on this.
The success and positive influence of this work is confirmed by numerous publications and the successful clinical application of solutions developed by us. These include the co-development and preclinical testing of the silver coating of tumour prostheses of the MUTARS® implant system (implantcast GmbH, Germany). In over 20 years of user experience, these silver-coated endoprostheses have already achieved a significant reduction in implant-associated infections.
The interdisciplinary team consists of physicians and scientists from various disciplines (chemistry, microbiology, mechanical engineering, materials science, industrial design).
