The field of research and teaching of the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics of the University Hospital and the University of Münster is the
Molecular Biophysics of cells and tissues.
This topic is approached by a broad spectrum of techniques ranging from molecular biology and biochemistry to biophysical methods including light and electron microscopy, mass spectrometry and single molecule spectroscopy.
The primary focus of our work is the development and application of novel methods in light microscopy, electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy and mass spectrometry. Pioneering work has been carried out in the field of light microscopy – photobleaching techniques (FRAP) - and mass spectrometry - matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation (MALDI).The Institute is part of the Faculty of Medicine (Dept. 5) of the University of Münster and is a department of the Center for Theoretical Medicine at the University Hospital in Münster.
