Z/003/14 - Analysis of glycolipid receptors of microbial virulence factors in cell cultures and organs using imaging mass spectrometry
Principal investigator: Klaus Dreisewerd
Core Unit: None
Funding period: 01/2014 - 03/2016
Technological / methodological innovation: Increasing the sensitivity and resolution of the MALDI-MS imaging (MALDI-MSI for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging); the high analytical potential of the new methodology, named MALDI-2, was transferred into two new DFG-funded research projects, to further develop the technique. Additionally a prototype of a “coolMALDI” instrument was developed.Publications (selected):

Z/004/17 - Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to non-invasively characterise atherosclerotic plaques in vivo
Principal Investigators: Michael Schäfers, Sven Hermann
Core Unit: Preclinical Imaging eXperts (PIX)
Funding period: 1/2017 to 12/2019Technological / methodological innovation: Direct visualisation of inflammatory activity in atherosclerotic lesions. After tests with various photoacoustic imaging protocols, preliminary data indicate that absolute quantification in vivo cannot be achieved with state-of-the-art PA technology using dye-based tracers. Further experiments are being conducted.
