Module 7: "Extended Trace Analysis"

Module Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Katja Anslinger

This module comprises three parts to chose from:

A - Forensic DNA Phenotyping
B - Epigenetic Age Estimation
C - Biogeographic Ancestry

The participating laboratories will receive three blood samples. There will be enough material to analyse all three parts of this modules, if participants whish to do so.

For the Forensic DNA Phenotyping the so-called Hirisplex-S markers are to be typed. The input of results will include the detected genotype as well as an evaluation with the help of the Hirisplex-S tool of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and a verbalisation of the results as an expert opinion. Furthermore, blood samples will be provided on which an age estimation by means of DNA methylation analysis is to be carried out. The submission of results will include the specification of the model and the markers as well as a brief verbalisation of results.

For Epigenetic Age Estimation, participants will carry out an age estimation by means of DNA methylation analysis. The input of results will include the specification of the model, the markers used and the sample size of the comparative collective as well as a verbalisation of the results as an expert opinion.

For Biogeographic Ancestry, participants will estimate the biogeographic ancestry of the three sample donors using marker panels validated in the respective lab.The input of results will include the specification of the model and the markers as well as a brief verbalisation of results.

Participants will receive a certificate of participation. A summary of all results will be made available so that the laboratory can assess its own performance.
