University Research and Treatment Centres

The University Research and Treatment Centres (URTC) will shape Münster University medicine for decades to come, which makes it all the more important to make a careful selection of topics and to align them with the location’s strengths. Read more here about the multistage, competitive process, which has been running since 2018, and which has been supported by external expertise.

Translational Centre for Inflammation (TRACI)

This centre combines research and treatment in the field of inflammatory diseases. The participating scientists and clinicians research how and why inflammation processes are different in various organs and diseases. Their goal is to identify mechanisms that can serve as starting points for carrying out targeted interventions in the complex dynamics of the immune system, and using these to develop diagnostic methods and personalised immunomodulatory therapies to improve the treatment of various diseases.

Neuroinflammation

The focus of the URTC "Neuroinflammation" lies on the improved understanding as well as the development of targeted immune and regenerative therapies in various neuroinflammatory diseases. Basis for this is an integrating, patho-immunobiological mapping of well-defined patient cohorts. Existing therapeutic options will be evaluated with regard to their mode of action and the spectrum of side effects across diseases, and new immune and regenerative approaches will be identified by means of these comparative analyses. A special scientific focus is the investigation of the importance of inflammatory mechanisms in the context of disease progression on the one hand and regeneration on the other hand.

Reproductive Health

The URTC Reproductive Health focuses on the molecular basis of reproduction, the associated pathomechanisms of infertility and the diagnosis and treatment of fertility disorders at the highest level. Münster is already nationally and internationally renowned for this – a unique selling point in the University research landscape. The nucleus of the URTC is the DFG-funded Clinical Research Group (CRU) 326 "Male Germ Cells".
