Equipement

We operate small animal MR scanners in a multimodal imaging facility with biosafety level 1 and 2 laboratories.

Our main MR scanner is a 9.4 Tesla small animal system (BioSpec Maxwell 94/17) that achieves superconductivity with minimal amounts of liquid Helium. It is equipped with

  • 4-element cryoprobe for mice and rats
  • High-power gradient system with Gmax >900 mT/m
  • X-nuclei coils for 31P, 27Na, 19F
  • Stimulation and monitoring systems for cardiac MRI and fMRI

We also operate, together with our colleagues from the EIMI, a 7 T small animal PET-MR scanner (BioSpec 70/20). Our laboratory is located at the “Multiscale Imaging Centre (MIC)”, which hosts a variety of other preclinical imaging systems including CT, PET, FRI and optoacoustic scanners. Furthermore, MIC operates a variety of cutting-edge optical microscopy systems. The centre also provides access to computing facilities for numerical simulations, post-processing and MRI data analysis, as well as to laboratories for synthetic chemistry and molecular biology. Our group is part of the Clinic of Radiology, enabling human studies with clinical scanners and field strengths between 0.5 and 3.0 Tesla.
