Volume 1 (Biological Role and Basic Mechanisms) identifies the molecular toolkit that is used to generate cell polarity, and it describes how this limited set of polarity molecules regulates various aspects of cell polarity in different cell types.
Volume 2 (Role in Development and Disease) puts a major emphasis on the physiological role of cell polarity. It describes the role of cell polarity during development and tumor formation, and it shows examples of how pathogens target cell polarity regulators for their own benefit.
