Medicine is a visual discipline!
A central aspect of our work is therefore the analysis of eye movements to better understand how we look at medical images (e.g., histological sections or sonoanatomical images). By using various eye-tracking technologies (including "webcam-based", "screen-based", or "mobile"), we investigate which gaze patterns are associated with a higher degree of expertise, how viewing behavior changes with increasing expertise, and how these patterns can be specifically promoted through training. Additionally, we are developing innovative techniques to study dyadic interactions using dual eye-tracking.
We use these insights for the development of evidence-based curricula and teaching methods. Our overarching goal is to prepare students for the demanding visual challenges of medical practice.
