All ZBB cooling devices are monitored by the central control room of the university hospital. In case of technical incidents (power blackout, abnormal temperatures, door open too long etc. ) an alarm is triggered at the control room and responsible ZBB-MFM staff is contacted (24/7 standby). In accordance with local incident management, malfunctions will be remedied as quickly as possible. In case of a total device-failure samples will be transferred to a running backup-device.

All compressor-baesd electical cooling units are equipped with additional/redundant temperature monitoring, which regularly monitors the temperature and documents it in a central database. For each device temperature-history is available in high resolution and over several years. Temperature profiles shall also be analyzed to automatically detect and predict failures of cooling units at an early stage.

Emergency plans were drawn up at all ZBB-MFM locations. In the event of a cooling device failure, appropriate measures are taken to ensure that valuable sample stocks are secured as quickly as possible. For this purpose, lists of employees are kept who are trained and responsible for the accident at the relevant locations. For the accident, e.g. Mobile containers for cryogenic transport and permanently operational backup storage capacities are available.
